HOW I MADE MY NYSC EXPERIENCE WORTHWHILE

By Omugbe prisca - February 23, 2018

Kofa! Kofa! Kofa shunn! This is what I was mostly called when on my Kaki, I kind of enjoyed that attention and I guess some of us had same experience too.  The kaki was well respected especially in the north, free rides and cheap goods were not left out. I guess most of us who have served can relay this fact. Before I was mobilized, I used to think NYSC was a waste of time because of what I had seen and heard. This formed the notion I had about NYSC, till I was finally mobilized.

I learnt a philosophy from a friend and it got me going. The saying goes thus "the outcome of every moment, is as a result of the tag you place on it". This helped me although my service year, I was bent on maximizing it. I told my self I can't change this moment, so I had to explore it to the fullest and I  also made great friends. It was a time for proper self development. I took so many challenging steps, learned to gain full  financial independence and above all I served God.

It was a period I took out time to map out the future and draft strategies. Though sometimes were really challenging but God helped me scale through. I also learnt more about my country, as I associated with people from different tribes. I had unlearn some wrong ideologies about certain culture I had.

For me NYSC was an exciting and impacting one. It all started from the camp where I was called a "white fowl", "otondo" lol,  those days though. I also looked forward to CDS days, it's was a social gathering for me. I don't no if it was just me but the idea of going to PPA most times weakens me but it was really cool. Impromptu head counts, clearance stress E. T. C. All this made the process fun. To all perspective and serving Corp members, NYSC is fun, enjoy every bit of it and remember you can only serve once.

Most of us who are serving and have served can relay. Let's get your comments and contributions rolling in.

  3. You are very right. I also wished NYSC was scrapped when the motion was moved in 2016. But now, i pray the motion never rise again. My orientation changed. I understood more about this country. It was a life full of all lessons (for those that are sensitive). Thanks the post Prisca. Keep it coming

  5. Lol...I totally agree , the value of any moment is the tag you place on it...while some people still think it is a waste of time, it was a moment of reflection and self development for me...I met alot of "funny" and strange people there, with unbelievable ideologies. Lol, I really met lots of great people too.....In all, it was cool and definitely not a waste of time for me.

  10. It wasn't a waste of time for me. As a matter of fact, it was that period I discovered some gifts lying dormant in me. I was able to gather experience in my area of calling, I met wonderful people who have contributed positively to my life and above it all, I met my wife to be during the period. Trust me, I'm being ungrateful if I should call NYSC a waste of time. (ADEBAYO SOLOMON)
