On a very bright Saturday morning, Shannon, Stanley and some of Stanley’s friends were on their way back from their regular Friday night clubbing when something tragic happened. suddenly there was a big bang and that was the last sound they all heard. Their car had hit a big tree and the tree fell on the car. People came to their rescue almost immediately, everyone's eye was on the stalks, their eyes all filled with tears. Blood was spilled all over. Stanley and his friends died on the spot, while Shannon was seriously injured and unconscious.
She was immediately taken by an ambulance to a nearby hospital and quickly admitted to the emergency ward while Stanley and his friends were taken to the morgue. it was a very pathetic sight. Shannon’s mum and the deceased parents were contacted, it was a drop of a bombshell and both parents had their hearts in their mouth. Shannon was in a state of coma, she was practically half dead. She had to be operated on several times and still her case looked like a hopeless one. Her right hand was amputated because it was seriously damaged and was beginning to routine. Mrs Jane sat close to her daughter lying on the bed almost lifeless with her hair roughly scattered on the pillow. Her mum's heart was completely broken, she had cried till her tear glands were dried and she continually prayed to God to save her daughters life.
Shannon eventually became conscious after two months and the first person she saw was her mum. The pain she felt on her body was so severe, she almost believed her soul was bleeding. She looked around as though she was looking for something, only to discover her right hand was no more. She wanted to scream but words failed her, her heart was on stand still for some seconds, she managed to scream faintly as she had no strength in her "mum what happened?". Her mum told her all that had happened.
Shannon wept and asked God to forgive her for living a reckless life, she also sought for her mum’s forgiveness and was also disappointed in herself for not keeping to the promise she made to her dad. About a month later, she was discharged from the hospital and was given an artificial hand but she was so depressed and wondered what the future held in store for her.
