THE CONTENT AND THE CONTAINER

“At this moment Elvis was taken aback by what he saw, he couldn’t help the hot tears that flowed down his cheeks; his blood ran cold, his hands shaking and was sweating. Had I known” he said.

Elvis got qualified for the final lap of a competition and this entails choosing a bag out of the two bags placed on the table. Both bags looked great but one looked better than the other; there was a small bag and a big one. There were two rules guiding his choice; firstly he could decide to visit a wise old man in a very distant country, who lived in a little cottage to tell him the right bag to pick, secondly he could pick based on his discretion, intellectual knowledge prowess or approval from friends. Elvis asked the judges to give him a little time to use his noodles, in other to make a decision. Immediately everywhere became calm as they were all curious to know what his decision would be.

Elvis Point of View (POV)
“Going to visit the old wise man is a cool idea, but that would be stressful and time consuming. I would rather make my decision since I know, am really a smart guy and I have always made the right decisions so I will do it myself”.
“Which should I pick now?” he asked himself. “On a neutral platform I would go for the big bag because I think the content would be great but since this is a very technical competition, I would go for the small bag”.

Back to the Narrator
He told his friends about his decision and they told him he made the right choice. He immediately told the judges he would make the decision himself rather than travel far away; he decided to go for the smaller bag. There was a round of applause and so much screaming by everyone present; Elvis was indeed a brave and smart guy.

It was time to finally check the content of each bag as that was what really matters. Remember this was the last lap of the competition; he had scaled through four lapses successfully. The judges moved towards the bags, at this moment, everyone was curious, the yelling, clapping, screaming and whistling intensified as this was the hottest part of the game. Elvis was so nervous, his heart beating so fast, his hands shaking and sweating. Finally the bags were opened.

The small bag contained trash; papers and nylons while the bigger one contained a medal and a cheque of N10 billion. At this moment Elvis was taken aback, he couldn’t help the hot tears that flowed down his cheeks, his blood ran cold and he was filled with so much regret. The gingered audience immediately became almost quite, they were all disappointed. Elvis wished he was patient enough to have visited the wise old man; he would have made a perfect choice that would have turned his world around. He was only left with a consolation prize which was nothing compared to what he lost.

This is a typical scenario of man and God. Most times we make decisions based on what we think, feel and see because we are not patient enough to make enquiries to hear what God is saying. We make some vital decisions based on our intellectual wisdom. As humans we are limited but God is limitless. We see only the container but he sees both the container and the content. Remember God’s ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts so make enquiries from the all knowing to avoid making wrong decisions.

  4. Sometimes what we think is right, is actually wrong."there is a way that appears to be right, but the end is death-Pro 14:12.NIV. This is why is wisdom we always inquire from God before making any decision, especially when making a major life decision, because the decision we make either shape our destiny or destroy it.God help us all. Nice one miss Prisca.

  5. Hmm! I think spirituality is everything from your write-up. Spirituality is connectivity to Trinity and Divinity.
May I not run the course of life with my sense.
